The Electrostatic Dust Print Lifting Kit is a specialized forensic tool used by crime scene investigators to recover dusty footwear or tire track impressions that are otherwise difficult to see or collect. It allows investigators to lift latent (invisible) dust prints from various surfaces such as floors, doors, walls, and furniture, and is particularly useful for dry-origin impressions, though specialized kits can sometimes recover wet-origin prints under certain conditions. The kit comprises a high-voltage control unit (often battery-operated) that generates the charge, a metalized lifting medium (Mylar) supplied as rolls or sheets to capture the print, a nickel-plated steel or polycarbonate ground plane/plate for grounding, an insulated roller to remove air bubbles for better film-to-surface contact, and a static discharge cable to safely release residual voltage after the lift is complete. The metalized lifting film is available in standard widths of 12" and 16", supplied in roll lengths of 25 feet or 100 feet, and in mat formats of 2' x 3' for larger or repeated lifts.
