Iodine fuming is one of the techniques used to develop latent fingerprints on paper and similar porous surfaces. The area of a surface suspected to hold a latent print is treated with iodine vapors, and once the fingerprint impression appears, it can be preserved through photography or further chemical processing (such as fixing with benzidine or starch solutions) before it fades.
▪ Non-destructive method allowing further chemical or photographic preservation of developed prints
▪ Effective for developing latent prints on paper and other porous surfaces
▪ Suitable for use in both laboratory and controlled field conditions
▪ Ideal for uncovering latent fingerprint impressions on documents, paper, and cardboard evidence
